Jelly Legs Running Club

Running provides people with the opportunity to improve their health and fitness while at the same time getting out of their homes and into the fresh air, enjoying everything their local area has to offer:

Our Thanet Group (which covers Ramsgate, Broadstairs & Margate) meets on a Monday and Thursday evening and either a Saturday or Sunday morning.  We cater for Beginners/Returners, Improvers and Intermediates.  We provide a monthly programme which gives you all the venues for each session. 

Monday - Improvers and Intermediates meeting at 6.30pm

Monday - Improvers and Intermediates meeting at 6.30pm  

Weekend - Intermediates meeting at 9.00am

I started running in August 2010 as a way to get fit, loose some weight and meet new people as I was fairly new to the area. Like many 'new runners' I thought that I would be the ONLY one who hadn't actually run since school, but to my amazement, found everyone to be in the same boat.  I won't deny it seemed hard in the beginning, but with the encouragement of my leader and the rest of my running buddies, I was soon finding it becoming easier and easier and since having run my first 5k, have never looked back. The buzz and satisfaction of just taking part is enough for me, but I continue to improve and progress, and so when my leader asked me to enrol in a Leadership in Running Fitness course, I was extremely proud and jumped at the chance to help others achieve their goals.

My message to anyone new thinking of joining us, even if you THINK you can't run, try it, give it just a few weeks, and you will soon be as amazed as I was at what you are capable of!

"I joined as a beginner in January and actually didn't think for one minute I would ever complete the 10 week course; at 18 half stone I found it difficult to walk for a minute let alone run for one! However, I attended twice a week every week and with the fantastic support and encouragement I received each time from the leaders and fellow members, I made it through. At times I would come home and think I was never going back; convincing myself I had pushed myself to the limit and there was no way I could up the anti in the next session and run for even more time. My whole body hurt and some nights I couldn't even sleep...but I did. 5 months later I attend just as regularly and in conjunction with a healthy diet I have now lost 5 stone and our average runs are 3-4 miles! Sometimes I can't believe I do it, in fact, I still think I can't-but I do! I tell everyone about Jelly Legs because it has definitely helped with some major healthy and positive changes in my life. So many people tell me they can't run, and I was one of those people. Starting the beginners group taught me that actually just maybe I could learn to. I want to tell you that the support from the leaders in the early days inspired me to continue, without their constant support and words of encouragement I would easily have given up. I love attending Jelly Legs as it’s such a friendly sociable group where everyone offers each other support and is light hearted and good fun. I would really like to say a big thank you to Jelly Legs!!"
