WALK..JOG..RUN..
If you've never run before, or not for a long time, our beginner's course is just for you. It is designed for those of you who would like to learn to run, for fun and fitness. No experience is necessary, just a sense of humour, and a willingness to have a go! We don’t put any pressure on anybody and never judge anyone by their level of fitness. If we can get a few more men and women jogging than walking then the course will have been a success!
We suggest that new members use the time before our beginner’s running course starts as an opportunity to improve on your fitness levels, this will help to get your body and mind ready for running. Please make sure that you can comfortably walk at a brisk pace for 60 minutes three times a week before starting our running course. If you don't feel quite ready to join straight away then we do run courses throughout the year. If in doubt or if you are significantly overweight, please check with your doctor first.
For the beginners' course consistency is key, so we encourage you to come every week, come rain or shine! If you can't come on your usual day for some reason, you are welcome to come to another beginners’ session to make up for it.
Don't rush out and buy any special running gear before the course starts, just wear any pair of trainers and some loose, comfortable clothing and a good supportive bra. Your leader will give you plenty of advice about running trainers and other items in the first few weeks.
At the end of the course you will be intergrated into our Improvers sessions on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening. Once you have used up your 10 session fees (included in course cost) you will then just pay £3 per session everytime you come along.
Membership:-
The course costs £50, this includes advice and tuition from our qualified Leaders, annual unaffiliated membership to Jelly Legs, 10 session fees, a club membership card which entitles you to discounts at the local specialist sports retailers, liability Insurance and a technical club t-shirt or vest.
Next Courses:-
Canterbury* - Next beginners course will be starting on 14th & 16th February 2012 to link in with the local Sports Relief event being held in Canterbury on 25th March 2012.
Whitstable and Herne Bay* - Next beginners course will be starting 5th March 2012 and then every Monday night thereafter.
Thanet* - Next beginners courses will be starting in September 2012.
Deal* - Next beginners course will be starting on Monday 20th February 2012 and then every Monday night thereafter.
*All locations are offering a taster session on the dates mentioned above, this means you can come along and give us a try before you commit yourself to the course. It also gives you an opportunity to meet our other members and leaders. The taster night will only cost £3. The course will then start the following week.
